You never take that kind of crap from us, we’re not going to take it from you. All right. Why couldn’t it have been the craps that got me? >> You promise me you’ll tell my wife the crowds got me.

>> Don’t you dare let her find out I got hit by my own artillery. >> Tell yourself because you’re going to be fine. You hear me? >> Yeah. Be fine. I don’t want to die. >> I don’t want to die. God damn it. Step back up. Guys, take him off the floor. Freeze to death. SOMEBODY SHUT THAT. KILL HIM. WHERE’S BROOKS? >> WHAT? Where’s Brooks? >> [ __ ] I’m going to still be out there.

He was right behind me. >> He’s not behind you now, is he? >> Maybe he got lost. You should go back out THERE AND FIND HIM. >> I’M NOT GOING BACK OUT THERE. >> NOT YOUR ASS. IT’S >> NOT MY FAULT. GOD DAMN IT. [ __ ] BOTH YOU OUT THERE. STOP RIGHT NOW. >> Either dead or he ain’t. LET ME GO [ __ ] USE ABOUT IT NOW.

[ __ ] POSE FOR HIM. >> I CAN’T. >> STANFORD, GET HIS BOX. GET HIS BOX. >> CHECK IT OUT. >> STAY STILL. DON’T [ __ ] MOVE. >> I WHAT DO WE GOT? >> BANDAGES.

>> DOCTOR’S DOCTOR. >> THIS SON OF [ __ ] wants to get his hands ON MCDANIELS. WELL, MAYBE HE CAN HELP. >> YOU KIDDING ME? HE’S A GODDAMN CROUCH. >> RIGHT. HE CAN’T HOLD ON MUCH LONGER. >> HE’S THE ENEMY. >> RIGHT. >> GOD KNOWS WHAT HE’S GOING TO TRY TO DO. >> WE CAN’T MAKE IT ANY WORSE NOW, CAN HE? >> All right.

>> Help him. Help him. W get out of the way. >> This [ __ ] ain’t right. >> How do we help you? >> OKAY. GET DOWN. CALM DOWN. GET AWAY FROM ME RIGHT NOW. CALM DOWN. >> All right. Just passed out. He’s just passed out. Keep working. >> Yes. >> What’s the news in that? >> Nothing. I can’t raise him.

The signal’s real. for him. >> Keep trying. Get him here now. Tell me taking a German officer Chris. >> Okay. >> It’s Brooks. >> What? >> I need help here. >> Brooks. >> Jesus. Jesus Christ. >> What the hell HAPPENED TO YOU? HUH? >> I GOT CAUGHT UP IN A [ __ ] FIREFIGHTER. I KIND OF HIT THIS KID IN THE CROSSFIRE.

>> JESUS. >> JESUS. I shot a chair. Me and the German gun and they wiped out his entire [ __ ] field. There’s a sergeant. >> He’s over there in bits. You know there’s a crowd there with his hands inside McDaniels. >> It’s been one of those days, >> right? You got to help me save this kid. I’m helping the sergeant right now, Brooks.

Why? I know it’s only an ugly little crop bastard, but I just helped kill his entire family. I can’t have him on my CONSCIOUS FIRST. >> SIX, do you read me? >> Wait, you first platoon. Please come in. Please respond, please. >> This is his first position. [ __ ] >> Any morphine? >> Yeah. Come on. [ __ ] >> Get it ready. Keep the pressure on.

I’ll be right back. >> How’s it going? >> Not good. Keeps bleeding out from everywhere. Every time we’re trying to patch him up, he bleeds out from somewhere else. Hey, >> [ __ ] Can you save? Do you read me? >> I I DON’T KNOW. CAN YOU SAVE HIM? >> DO YOU READ ME? >> NO. NO. Get up. You take care of him.

Take care of him. >> What the hell are you doing? >> What I have to do? >> Got to work ON THE SERGEANT NOW. >> YOU POINT THAT GUN SOMEWHERE. >> STANFORD. >> STANFORD. >> Daniels is dead. There ain’t nothing more we can do for him. Not. >> There’s nothing more we can do for her. >> What do you have me do? Huh? You want me to let that kid die? >> This week you can start suffering.

>> Oh, thank God. Sir, this is perfect. >> Dead Stanford. >> Yeah, he’s got me. >> Hello, sir. I know. Sure was our own [ __ ] >> Keep an eye on him. >> Yeah, we got a journey. >> How’s he doing? >> Crowd dog’s patching him up pretty good. >> Better make it, Brooks. >> Yeah, that sounds right, sir. >> As soon as you can.

>> Thanks. >> There ain’t nothing to be thankful for. So, using that backup, >> I got through to CP. They should be here any minute. They said the crowds are pulling out of the area. >> Good. Guys, Sarge. Sarge. Hey, Sarge. >> Sarge. >> Come on, Sarge. Serge, stay with us, Sarge. Sarge. [ __ ] All right.

Just just get him cleaned up as best you can. Tell him I’m sorry. It’s cleaned up. Sergeant Ro.

Well, it looks like your guys got hit pretty hard. >> Damn right we did by our own artillery. >> That’s right, SGE. I think got hit by one of our own shells. Germany did this. >> Sergeant, there were no crowd guns firing. >> I think you’ll find your mistake, Miss Stanford.

There was German guns firing onto your position from the northeast. >> He was killed by our guns, and you know it. >> No, I do not know that. >> What I do know is that no American soldiers were killed by American guns. McDaniel’s God rest his soul was killed by German fire. End of stinks. Yeah. Yeah, I know. Look, it’s bad enough for the folks back home hearing about their loved ones being killed by the crowds.

Believe me, they don’t need to know that their own guys are doing it as well. Now, I suggest you guys get your head straight. Captain Nos will be down any second to take a look at the prisoner. So, where is he? >> Whose blood is that on his hands? >> He’s a doctor, Sergeant. He was trying to help. >> Help? >> Yeah, Sergeant.

>> Well, I suggest you guys get him cleaned up. You don’t want to get caught red-handed. Welsh, get him cleaned up. Yes, sir. Stand up. Hold out your hands. Your hands. You up there? America. Sorry. >> Jesus Christ. Get your [ __ ] face. >> Stand up. All right, stay easy. Take it easy. Stop waving that goddamn weapon around.

The Germans will be dead by now. Teaching these kids to mark. You boys are in a sorry state. Where’s Sergeant McDaniels? >> He’s under the blanket >> over here, sir. Sorry to hear that. >> Truly am. He’s a good man. >> Mr. prisoner? >> Yes, sir. A medical officer. He dragged me all the way up here for a medical officer.

What intelligence are we going to get from him? How many jabs it was had in his ass this year? giving you any trouble? >> No, sir. He’s been quiet as a mouse. >> Yeah, I’ll bet he has. These crowd officers are all the same. Arrogant bastards when they got the whole army behind them. Turn to little girls when they’re not there.

All right, private squads up the battalion. I’ll deal with them later. Sir, okay. Huddle up. Now, recognition of you dragging me all the way up here. Look at some jumped up nurse. I got a mission for you. I need you to make your way to this junction here. Perhaps I got it covered by a machine gun in these buildings.

I want you to take that position and hold it. With >> all due respect, sir, this is insane. There’s only five of us left. We don’t got >> Stand down for a sergeant. Now, you listen to me, soldier. I understand you’re all a bit shaken up, so I’m going to let that go. But if you ever speak to an officer like that again, you will be court marshaled.

And I will personally ram that weapon so far up your ass, you won’t know what’s hit you. Do you understand me? Good. You’re not the first unit to lose a good man. You won’t be the last. Now, >> I don’t know how many of your ugly faces I’m going to see again, but you got to start acting like the man you were trained to be.

We’ve got these [ __ ] crowd bastards on the run. I’m not going to lose that strangle hold now. >> Intelligence tells us to expect only light pockets of resistance. Carry on briefings, sir. Go up on the stairs. Robert Wrightman. >> Yes, sir. I wasn’t >> sure. Once you guys get covered in dirt, you all look the same. >> I don’t think our own mothers would recognize us, sir.

Now, >> I’m told you’re a good trooper. Been with the company since the beginning back state side. >> Yes, sir. >> Which is why I’m surprised you’re still private. Although I believe my predecessor tried to promote you. You elected to stay under the command of Sergeant McDaniels. God rest his soul. Yes, sir.

>> Now, I know all about Normandy, and I got no time for bleeding hearts. Look, >> sir, >> I don’t know why he resisted promotion, and I don’t care. I can’t have you hiding in the background anymore. Nanny, your experience should be leading his own unit. I shouldn’t be here at all. I’m promoting you effective immediately to Sergeant.

>> Sir, with all due respect, I’m not your guy. Stanford’s been with the company just as long. >> I’m sure you’ll do a good job. Sergeant McDaniels is a damn fine soldier. Sure live up to his memory. >> Sir, I don’t think. >> No, that’s right. You don’t think, soldier. That’s what I do. It’s my job.

I thought about this a lot. Sergeant Row. >> Sir, get this man some stripes. Congratulations, Sergeant. Thank you, sir. Hey, heat. What the Jesus? Thought it was just the

82nd here. >> These guys are from the 28th Infantry. >> I got a buddy back home in Greenville joined the 28th. My mom wrote me said he’d been missing for a while. Jesus, >> that could have been him. >> Yo, what the hell are they doing still lying out here? >> These guys have been here since November.

Snow must have kept them from rotting. >> Christ. Decent thing to do would be to move him. >> Yeah. Yeah, we got to bury him. Let’s do it. >> Nobody touch anything. >> Why? >> Craz might have booby trapped him. He’s right. I wouldn’t touch him. Come on, guys. Let’s move out. Looks like the crowd’s turning on each

other now. >> I heard the SS. You kill any soldier who hasn’t put up enough of a fight. These crowds really are crazy sons of [ __ ] >> Hey, any nation that can produce Molina de can’t be all that bad. >> It’s pretty rich coming from a Jew. >> Look, I’m just saying you can’t damn an entire nation just cuz of a few bad apples. Bad apples.

Hitler gurring gerbles. That’s some mighty ranted apple pie you got there. >> Yeah. Well, I’m guessing this guy wanted to be here about as much as we do. >> What’s that? >> Propaganda. Our propaganda tells them how to surrender to us. >> Looks like the SS found him with it. Poor old schmuck. >> Well, if there’s a few less cruts out there shooting at me, I’m all for it.

>> Think no will hang us. We [ __ ] this mission up. >> I wouldn’t put it past him. >> I kicked the chair out from under us personally. >> Better not [ __ ] up then. Let’s move out, boys. I got points. Hey, what’s with the wind?

>> Ah, it’s nothing. I bust my foot in a tree a while back. I’m fine. >> We’re nearly there yet, Sarge. >> Don’t call me that. >> Why not? >> Because I’m not a sergeant. Are >> you the only one of us with sergeant stripes on? >> Stripes don’t make you a sergeant. >> Oh, well, maybe I should take over command then.

>> Yeah, let’s put Stamford in charge. >> Damn right. Cuz I am really in the mood for a good suicide mission. [ __ ] All right. Looks pretty quiet.

>> This is a graveyard, right? >> You shut up and listen. >> Sure thing. >> All right, Welsh and Randall, I want you two to set up here and give us a base of fire. >> Cool. Brooks Stanford, we’re going to come in from the flank of that cover there. Move in and take the building. Jesus. >> Okay. >> We don’t know how many crowds are in that position, Lou.

>> Yeah, I know. Anyone got any questions? All right. Now, Welsh Randall, just make sure that the crowds open fire, you keep them busy long enough for us to get a grenade in there. Got it. Don’t worry. >> Okay, let’s go. All right, let’s go. This is the part where you convince one

of us to storing that position, right, man? No. No, I want you two guys to cover me. Stupid bastard. What do we do? What do we do?

>> I don’t know. Randall, you wait here. I’ll go check out what’s going on. Right ordered us to stay put. Welsh. [ __ ] [ __ ] Got it. >> What happened here? >> They’re all dead. >> Price, right? >> I didn’t do this. They were dead when I got here.

>> Yeah. The cost of care for us. I got to call into company. [ __ ] Looks like Wrightman thinks he’s a lone ranger or something. >> They were dead when we got here. >> Was it our guys? >> Who knows? >> Maybe it was the SS. Like that crap back at the clearing. >> Maybe. Maybe they did it themselves.

>> Crap’s godamn nuts. Profound, Welsh. Real profound. >> Screw you, Brooks. >> Touche. >> What? >> One of these days, Brooks, you’re going to say something. >> You’re going to understand it. >> You Jewish prick. >> Shout out to you. >> All right. We spoke to regiment and they want us to stay here until third platoon arrives to relieve us.

>> When’s that going to be? >> Sometime tomorrow. >> They just want us to stay here all night. >> That’s right. >> Where duck springs to mind. >> You know what? We have a job to do. So, let’s get to it. Welsh, you got first watch. Brooks, Randall, reinforce our position. Stanford and I are going to get these crouchs out of here before they stink up the place.

Let’s go. You don’t have a carton crowds around as being part of my job description. >> Sometimes we all got to do things we don’t like. Why don’t you get Randall to help you play grave figure? Cuz >> maybe I thought he can use a break from your pissing and moaning. >> [ __ ] is that supposed to mean? >> You’ve been on my back ever since I got promoted.

You know good and well that I never even wanted to be sergeant. >> Then let me. >> But I am. So you need to accept it. Okay. >> You don’t deserve those stripes. >> You had dropped back out that crowd. [ __ ] McDaniels would still be here. >> [ __ ] you, Stanford. >> He ordered you to leave her alone.

He told you you were exposed. But you had to be a goddamn hero, didn’t you? You probably thought you got a [ __ ] out of piece of [ __ ] You listen to me, you ignorant son of a [ __ ] There is nothing that I would love more than to blow your [ __ ] brains out and leave you next to those dead crowds. But I need you alive.

You and I can finish this [ __ ] when we get back. Right now, we need to work together to keep these guys alive. Do you hear me? When we get back. Yeah. Let me finish this. Hey, Brooks. >> What’s up with Wrightman? >> I don’t know. What do you mean? Well, he gets promoted and it’s like they asked him to shoot his own grandmother.

>> Yeah, well, he doesn’t think he deserves it. >> Why not? He’s the one who held us together when when McDaniels got hit. >> Yeah, but he still feels responsible for what happened outside St. Marle. >> What happened? >> Aio at the time was a Lieutenant John Craig. Guy’s a real [ __ ] Actually, no, he wasn’t an [ __ ] He’s just a dumb son of a [ __ ] He knew a lot about war, though. I’ll give him that.

Problem was, he just didn’t know how to fight one. Anyway, we had the place surrounded for about 3 days before we got the order to go in. We weren’t even meant to go in. We were the second wave. But the first wave got pinned down like rats in a barrel. Germans had a bunch of artillery that intelligence had no idea about.

Anyway, by the time we got there, Lieutenant Craig got himself all confused. You know, orders Wrightman to torch his barn on the outskirts of town. Writman being right refuses. says he doesn’t know who’s in there. Lieutenant Craig says he’s shooting himself if he doesn’t follow orders. So Rightman torches the barn.

Turns out about 10 guys from the first wave were taking cover there. >> Jesus. Did any of them make it out? >> Most of them died straight off. Some of them got burned so bad they died at the aid station after the fighting finished. Ripman was never the same after that. I guess like a part of him got burned up along with those guys. Jesus Christ.

>> Yeah, well, [ __ ] happens. Some of us just take it more to heart than others. >> What are you guys gabbing on about? >> Reminiscing about old times, shooting the [ __ ] Well, we got a long night ahead of us. Let’s get this finished. All right. Smells good. Welsh. >> Nearly ready. >> What’s the situation? Situation is I just finished wiping my ass on Welsh’s copy of Stars and Stripes.

>> Hey, I haven’t read that yet. >> What use is it to you if you can’t read? >> Screw you, Brooks. I can read. I read all sorts of things in my pop store. >> Yeah, I know you can read, Welsh. I just didn’t think that stars and stripes would stand up to your intellectual scrutiny. >> Leave me alone, Brooks.

>> Jesus, Welsh. What are you cooking? Smells like rancid cheese. >> This cow don’t smell like cheese. >> I think it might be me. >> What? >> It’s my foot. >> Take a look. >> No, it’s all right. It’s just a bit damp, that’s all. >> Just let me take a look. Can you feel this? >> Do you not got any dry socks? >> I’ve only got these.

>> I got some you can wear. >> Is it trench foot? >> Sorry, kid. >> My toes. Do you think I’ll lose them? I don’t know. I mean, I’m not a doctor, but hey, I’ve seen worse. When you get back, they’ll dry you out. Pump you full of drugs. Be back on the front line in no time. >> Yeah. Yeah. Wear Stanford socks.

Tie this around your neck. Dry it out. You’ll be fine. >> Child’s ready. >> [ __ ] feet. I met this guy when I was at the aid station. >> What were you doing at the aid station? >> I was shot. What do you think I was doing there? >> Tell him where? >> Well, I was shot from behind. >> He was shot in the ass.

>> And I still reckon it’s one of you sons of [ __ ] that did it. >> I’d love to put a bullet in your ass. >> That’s not the only thing you want to put in my ass. >> Oh, Christ. I’m going to put my boot in your ass if you don’t finish your story. >> Right. Well, this guy had been blown all to hell by a shell. I disguised in bits.

But the thing he kept moaning about was his foot. Kept going on and on about it. Thanks. So, I ask him what happened to your foot. He told me that he’d been blown off on his very first patrol. And when he was laying there, the only thing he could think of was how he was going to go home without killing one single crowd.

So, he sees this figure walking towards him. He thinks to himself, “This might be my only chance.” So, he picks up his rifle, pulls the trigger, and bam, blows a hole clean through his own foot. He was so [ __ ] he thought his foot was a goddamn crowd. >> You know what? We need some whiskey, >> right? Cuz that’s just what we need.

You drunk as a skunk. >> Said anything about getting drunk. Just like things a little blurry, that’s all. Picked this stuff up on our last leave and I was going to save it for a special occasion, but seeing as there’s no way in hell any of us are going to survive this. Hey, stand. >> I thought now would be as good a time as any.

>> McDaniels, McDaniels. Daniels. >> That’s better. I I haven’t told anyone this, but not long after I got shipped to England. I know, but I don’t know how, but McDaniels found out that I’d never been with a girl. He just shouting at me and called me a [ __ ] idiot and said I should have got laid before coming out here.

I thought he was going to shoot me. I looked so mad. But he paid for me to do it with this woman. And she well she wasn’t the prettiest of things and she wasn’t much more than 65. And she smelt like the back end of a bull. But I I just closed my eyes and imagined she was this blondhaired beauty Annabelle Taylor from my hometown of Missouri.

It was amazing. Then I went back to base and McDaniels just shook my hand and smiled. I was mighty touched by that. >> He did the same for me. >> You? Oh, come on. Thought you’d be saving yourself for that fiance of yours back home. Well, it doesn’t count if you’re within a 20 mile radius of being shot.

>> I don’t know if she’ll see it that way. >> And it’s a good thing nobody’s going to tell her, >> right? Even though I’d love to hear more about Brooks’s views on monogamy. I think we better get set up for the night. >> What’s monogamy? >> It’s a type of wood. Welsh. >> Welsh, put out the fire.

Make sure it don’t smoke. Stay. I need you on watch. It’s a gift. It’s It’s a gift to be. It’s It’s just a song my my dad used to sing to me. He used to take me camp and, you know, teach me how to pitch a tent, cook food in an open fire. Man, I used to look forward to that all week. I could never sleep out there, though.

Every little noise, sound, scared me, kept me awake. So, I’d wake him up and he’d sing me the song. I wouldn’t even make it to the end, though. I’d just drift right off. It’s funny, you know, ever since I got to you guys in Belgium, I haven’t been able to remember the tune. I I I try to get it in my head, but it just goes the valley of love and delight.

I don’t know. It just goes. It is a gift to be simple. Is a gift to be free. Is a gift to come down where you want to be. But when you find yourself in a place that’s right, you’ll be in the valley of love and delight. When true simplicity is gain

to bow and to bend. We will not be ashamed to turn. Turn will be our delight. Still turning turning. You come down right. You okay?

>> Bad dream. >> Oh, you want to get some sleep, right? >> I ain’t tired. What are you looking at? It’s my wife and kids. You also look that is one fine looking family you got there. >> She left me. >> My wife, she left me for some [ __ ] grocery clerk. [ __ ] Sorry to hear that. I got a letter from her last week.

I can’t say I blame her, you know. I mean, she doesn’t even know if I’m ever coming back. Can’t wait around forever. Hey, what if I came back with a leg missing or something? Or Christ, I could have my [ __ ] dick blown off. She’s taking my kids. Listen, Louis, when you get back from here, you’ll be a war hero.

She will come crawling back to you. That [ __ ] clerk, he won’t even be able to look you in the eye. I >> think there’s someone out there. >> What? >> The head voices come from that tree line over there. >> [ __ ] Welsh. Randall, get up. We might have company. All right, everyone, set up your defensive positions.

I want nobody firing unless absolutely necessary. Chances are they don’t even know we’re here, and I want to keep it that way. Come on, get up. Go. I need to pee. What? I got to pee. Can you hold on? I’ve been holding on for an hour. Well, go and pee over there and try not to stink up the place. What? >> There is definitely something in those trees.

>> [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] >> Are you okay? >> I pissed all over my pants. Be quiet. Three. You hold the fort. Stam and I are going to go check it out. >> Go. >> Hey Randall, keep that wind to me, would you? >> [ __ ] you, Brooks. [ __ ] >> You’re going to get us all killed. >> [ __ ] Stanford. >> What the [ __ ] the matter with you? >> I’m fine.

>> Yeah, you look it. >> Don’t you just get off my back? >> No. the [ __ ] do you think you’re doing charging off like a goddamn hero like that? >> You are going to get us all killed. >> You ain’t McDaniels, you know. >> I ain’t trying to be. >> You could have fooled me. >> Why don’t you just leave me the [ __ ] alone, right? >> Because I want to get through this.

Christ. You’re so close. I could smell it. And you, it’s like I don’t even know you anymore. A goddamn ghost walking around here. You ask me why I’m on your back all the time. It’s cuz you let me. The old rightman never let me get away with that. He would have punched me in the goddamn mouth. I should have been made sergeant because those stripes are [ __ ] killing you.

You really think you want this? All right, guys. Platoon’s going to be here soon. Let’s look alive. >> Looks like Stamford’s been seeing things again. At least I’m not sitting in piss. >> Oh, Randall, you puts I’m going to think of your piss till we get back to JESUS CHRIST. HOLD ON, BUDDY. HOLD ON.

>> Down there. How should I know? >> What are WE GOING TO DO? Defend our position. Stay here. We’re dead. Order to hold this position with what? We got to MOVE NOW. DANNY, STANFORD, >> YOU COULD HAVE A feeling for mortifying. You’re going to GET US ALL KILLED. WE’RE HERE TO DO A JOB. >> WE’RE GOING TO FIGHT A WAR.

I COMMIT SUICIDE. >> HOLD OUR POSITION. JESUS. HEAT. HEAT. GRENADE.

HE I’M OUT. HAVE a good round. I’m out. We left Randall. He was already dead. Welsh, >> we should have tried. Oh [ __ ] We got [ __ ] I’m [ __ ] You got to get out of here. Believe me. >> Hey, don’t be a schmuck. >> Stop trying to be SOME SORT OF HERO. DON’T SHOOT YOU. >> Shut up, you baseball nick.

I can MAKE A BASEBALL GLOVE OUT OF THAT [ __ ] NICK OF YOU. GOD. Oh my god. Kill him.

What the [ __ ] are you doing? Kill him. Louis kids today, huh?

You get the bronze star for this soldier. I’ll make sure of that. Looks like second platoon’s all yours now. Hey, Sergeant. Don’t worry. I won’t mention they were kids.
